Even after being diagnosed and starting medication, it does not leave you. I know this to be true because I am going through depression and anxiety disorder. I am learning to help myself cope with it. Not only that, but being able to hold myself through a rough day matters.
Getting One percent better counts
I have had some okay days and some awful ones. In those days, depression pulls my rational mind to the darkness. I no longer see the light. All I feel is pain, endless pain, I hold myself and cry. I doubt that anybody will ever miss me if I am gone.
Although I do not feel like it, I get out of bed and I make myself take a shower. I take a deep breath, looking myself in the mirror, where I see a scared little girl staring back at me. I comfort her, and tell her that she is going to be fine, I am here for you.
Know what you are feeling will pass
It always does, does not it? When you are feeling terrible, remember it will pass. A little shift in your mood is enough for you to feel okay again. So allow your self to fall and hit the bottom, because you will rise again. If you are feeling irritated and anxious now does not mean you will never feel peace again.
Do not be afraid of yourself
Depression makes us believe in the worst case scenario, of what could go wrong. As a result, we become afraid of our own feeling.
Do not ignore your emotions, face it instead. Because this is how you will learn to guide your negative and scary thoughts or feeling. Have faith in your self and others.
Ask for help
Depression make us feel lonely because we isolate ourselves. I know we are tired and can’t wait to go to bed. Even calling loved ones feels like climbing a mountain. But it is a part of your illness. You are not your illness. Go outside and get some sunlight. Ask if you could have a sleepover at your sister or a good friend. If you live far from home, FaceTime works too.
Just telling how you feel can help you get rid of burden in your heart. I know they love you, even though sometimes you can not feel it.
