Self-discipline is the key ingredient to success

I found myself wondering why my life felt like a mess? What defines someone’s success or failure? Why many of us struggle to finish the project, which we were so enthusiastic to start?

As I start paying attention to my daily routine, it became crystal clear to me. I was relying way too much on my will power or motivation, whatever you call it. I lacked on self-discipline.

And I can tell 80 percent of us have yet to learn about self-discipline.

What is self-discipline?

Self-discipline is keeping the word you gave to yourself. It is about making yourself do the things you need to do even when you don’t feel like doing. Self-discipline is showing up for yourself. It is about parenting yourself.

It is making yourself eat an apple or make yourself go for a run when a bag of chips and couch seems much more appealing.

Where to start

Well, I started implementing self-discipline, with my blog. When I started my blog, I said I would post twice a week. I have a full time job and two toddlers running around and just a day off. However, I am publishing two blog posts a week.

I find time and energy because I know I am not accepting any bull-shit excuses for why I did not write.

Any excuse will do

Once, I did not show up for an exercise class and told my teacher I had a headache, and he just smiled at me and said, darling, anything will do.

If you really pay attention to your mind, it is showing a 100 reasons why you should stay at home and watch Netflix instead of going for a run. Remember, next time you do not want to do something you know you should do, just make yourself do it. No excuses.

Giving up is easier than going on

The motivation or the rush of energy wears off as the days goes by. Especially when you are not making any progress, however, to keep moving towards your decision takes self-discipline. Victim mindset and how to stop it

There is no way that you won’t pass exams, if you study enough. There is no way the plant will not flower when the soil is fertile. Keep sailing forward to your destination, and you must arrive.

The need must be yours

Whatever you choose to do, it should be your idea and your true intention, if not keeping your word or showing up for work is harder. It is easy going and fun to dance on your song, why because you know the lyrics and the emotion it transmits to you.

Because it is yours. Take time to decide where you want to go and who you want to become. All that’s left now is the work. Where self-discipline will make your path certain. It might not be easy, but it is certain.
