Compassion, the path to ease your self and others

The meaning of compassion is to suffer with. It is an act of connecting with another person in pain.

Feeling compassion makes us go out of our way to ease other’s suffering, may it be physical, emotional or mental

Compassion is greater than judgment and revenge, as it has the power to heal.

Most of us do not understand other’s suffering, let alone compassion.

How can we practice the act of compassion?

I really believe the world we live in now does need a lot of understanding and compassion to go around. The first step is to be kind to yourself. As contradictory as it may sound, you can only feel for others when you can feel your own pain and suffering. The most sad person tries to make everyone happy because he knows how it is to be in sorrow.

Neither I nor you can make ourselves to feel sympathy for others. It must be genuine and authentic. Next time when you are judging or criticizing someone, ask why? It is a powerful question to ask, as it opens the door for you to really see a bit of yourself on them.

Compassion helps improve relationships

A few years back when I moved in with my husband, he would have this migraine headache, it would not let him move. He would lie down, most of the days I remember feeling resentment. I had no idea how bad it hurt until I started having migraine too. But my husband kindly took care of me.

It is just a tiny example of how important it is for us to be compassionate with each other. When we relate and understand the next person’s pain, we no longer inflict pain.

Practicing act of compassion increases life fulfillment and happiness

As we human are social creature, we feel good of ourselves when being needed. Feeling compassion for a colleague, or a friend or a family member going through something difficult helps us connect and create a lasting bond. Which in turn fuels our life with increased self-worth.

What compassion is not

It is not putting your own needs in the bottom. Compassion is not pleasing others to seek their validation. How to stop people pleasing. It is not letting others manipulate you for their own benefits.

Working on yourself to become better than you are today is important. As it helps us grow, may it be self-compassion or for others can come handy while suffering. Because suffering is inevitable in life. It is through pain and harshness of life sometimes we learn the biggest lesson of all.
